I just got back from the Sofia Improv Festival - my very first improv festival - and it was A-MA-ZING.
The exercises made me notice my own patterns and inspired me to bring more improv: both into the improv community and into my work as a coach, trainer, and facilitator.
I highly recommend you try improv theatre yourself. Here’s what it gives you:
✨ Presence
The more you practice, the more open and receptive you become. You learn to connect the dots, spot opportunities, and co-create with whatever is around you.
✨ Creativity
That relaxed alertness improv builds makes tiny impulses and sparks of ideas visible. You learn to trust and build on them, and that trust grows your creativity.
✨ Communication
You’ll practice expressing yourself clearly and making sure you’re heard and understood. You’ll discover your full range: words, tone, body language, emotion. You’ll also listen more deeply and tune in to what’s really happening. People will feel heard and understood in your presence, and they’ll want to collaborate with you.
✨ Collaboration
You loosen the need to shine or lead. You invite. You follow. You build on what others offer and let them build on you.
And the magic doesn’t stop with you.
Your practice ripples out: your work becomes a playground; your colleagues, friends, and family become fellow players.
This is my first post on improv — more to come soon!
